Welcome to Santa Madre, an authentic Mexican restaurant in Toronto where tradition, craftsmanship, and hospitality come together around one simple ingredient: corn.

How It Started

The Beginning

Located in the heart of Toronto's Gerrard East, Santa Madre celebrates the rich culinary heritage of Mexico through fresh nixtamalized corn, handmade masa, and recipes inspired by generations of Mexican home cooking. Every tlacoyo, tetela, and quesadilla begins with the ancient process of nixtamalization, transforming whole corn into fresh masa using one of Mexico's oldest and most celebrated culinary traditions.

Our menu is rooted in authenticity while embracing the creativity of modern Mexican cuisine. From slow-cooked suadero, carnitas, and pollo al pastor to seasonal vegetables, fresh salsas, and traditional Mexican breakfast dishes, every meal is prepared from scratch using carefully selected ingredients and time-honoured techniques.

Nixtamalized Corn

Masa

At Santa Madre, we believe corn is the soul of Mexican cuisine. While many restaurants rely on pre-made products, we are committed to working with fresh nixtamalized masa, allowing us to create traditional dishes with the flavor, aroma, and texture that have defined Mexican cooking for thousands of years. Our handmade tlacoyos, tetelas, and quesadillas showcase the versatility of fresh masa and offer our guests a taste of Mexico's rich culinary heritage.
